Where Pitchess East Records Go

Section 11 describes Pitchess Detention Center East Facility as a county jail facility status or historical facility unit operated by LASD. That wording is important. No separate public release database was identified for East Facility, and the page should not invent current housing or release functions beyond the verified LASD materials. The practical release question is whether the person's custody event remained inside the LASD county jail system or shifted to another agency.

For a county release, the trail runs through LASD current custody status, LASD release or pending reports where applicable, VINE, the Los Angeles Superior Court case, and LASD custody records. If the person was moved from LASD to CDCR, the longer-term record becomes a CDCR record. If a federal, immigration, or another county transfer occurred, the receiving agency's locator or records office must be checked separately.

Confirm an East Facility Release

Because East Facility has no confirmed separate public release search, the release route is the broader LASD route. Use the facility name as context for the records request, but verify the booking and release through the system that actually held the booking record.

2. Check LASD's Custody Reports page for "Inmate Releases" and "LASD Pending Releases." The current Inmate Release Report is a projected-release report and may include future dates, so do not recast it as a completed last-24-hour list.
3. Use VINE for a specific person. Los Angeles VINE can be reached at 1-877-VINE-4LA / 1-877-846-3452 and uses name or booking number for custody status and notification registration.
4. Check LASC criminal case access for release orders, bail events, sentence completion, disposition, warrants, or later record-cleaning activity, while remembering that online court data is not the official court record.
5. Submit an LASD custody-related records request when you need the formal date, time, or manner of release.

Use system-level LASD contacts for East Facility release questions. The confirmed LASD records material separates custody-related CPRA requests from other records services. Custody-related requests are the route for booking information, incarceration records, and inmate records/information. The Pitchess Detention Center campus is a distinctive Los Angeles County jail setting in Castaic. Section 19 notes that Pitchess releases remain LASD county releases, but the campus geography can affect transportation and family pickup planning compared with downtown Los Angeles. For East Facility specifically, the research calls for facility-history and local-color treatment rather than unsupported statements about current release operations.

No Separate East Search

A useful East Facility page has to prevent a common search error: looking for a facility-specific roster that the research did not confirm. In Los Angeles County, the release search begins with the agency and custody track. For an LASD booking, use LASD custody status and records. For a CDCR prison sentence, use CIRIS and CDCR Case Records. For a federal sentence, use BOP. For immigration detention, use the ICE locator only for the current ICE custody question. The East Facility name can help narrow the history, but it does not replace the agency-level record.

When making a records request, include East Facility only as one fact in the custody history. The stronger identifiers are the person's legal name, booking number if known, date of birth if available, arrest date, approximate housing or transfer dates, and the court case number if a case was filed. LASD's online release PDFs are limited operational snapshots, so a records request may need to ask directly for booking information, incarceration records, inmate records/information, and the time and manner of release rather than only asking for a "release list."

Release Record Limits

Government Code section 7923.610 supports public access to the time and manner of release or current holding location, subject to safety and investigation limits. That does not mean every online page will show a complete discharge packet. LASD's visible release PDFs show limited fields such as projected release date, booking number, last name, and first name, and the pending report is a snapshot. A formal request may still be necessary to obtain a fuller custody record.

Transfers should be handled with the same caution. If the person left LASD for CDCR, the later release date is a state-prison matter with CDCR date terms such as EPRD or parole-eligible dates. If the person left for federal custody, BOP is the federal status source. If immigration custody is suspected, the ICE locator can answer only the current ICE custody question. None of those later systems changes the need to verify the local LASD event separately.

For East Facility, that means asking what LASD record exists before assuming that the facility name alone identifies the final release location.

Use official LASD, court, or receiving-agency records to verify the release event before treating an East Facility reference as final.
